absolute zero

Where the name starts. We work in the last stretch of the scale, 248 to 353.

Cold first.
Then heat.

Luke Ferris started Kelvin & Co. in 2009 with one van and a set of gauges, fixing cool rooms for the restaurants he used to deliver to.

Commercial came first because that is where a failure costs the most: a dead cool room is a night's stock. Heating followed because the heat pump that chills a room will warm a house, run the other way. The licences, the tools and the people were already here.

Anna Ferris runs the office and the phones, which is why a person answers at 2am. Today there are fourteen of us and nine vans, working from a workshop in Laverton North, halfway between Melbourne and Geelong.

293 KLicences

Licensed across
the dial.

Three licences, each covering its own stretch of the scale. Open one to read it in plain words.

The business holds a Refrigerant Trading Authorisation from the Australian Refrigeration Council, and every technician carries an ARCtick Refrigerant Handling Licence. It is what lets us open a circuit, recover the gas and recharge it.

Every freezer room, cool room, air conditioner and heat pump on the dial needs it. Low-GWP refrigerants (R290, R32, CO2) wherever the equipment allows.

Licensed by Victoria's Building and Plumbing Commission (formerly the VBA) for Type A gas appliances: ducted furnaces, boilers and gas hot water.

Every gas job gets a compliance certificate and a carbon monoxide test before we leave.

Kelvin & Co. is a registered electrical contractor with Energy Safe Victoria, and a licensed electrician wires every install. No second trade to book, and no gap between them.

Four leads.
Four ranges.

Every lead technician owns a stretch of the dial. Between them, the whole thing.
